Biography

What happens when you bring together 5 funk lovers from all across the world? Groove Down — a one-of-a-kind mix of talent based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The 5-piece band is creating a name for themselves in the Scottish music scene with their captivating original music. Inspired by the soulful greats across the decades, Groove Down takes the melodic simplicity of the 70s, high-energy rhythm of the 80s, and the genre-bending of the 90s to create a unique sound that has become their trademark — the simultaneous blending of modern and vintage. The group includes Rue Cooper (Vocals & Lyrics), Michael Fallemann (Guitar), Joan Blasco (Keys), Xabi Villares (Drums), and Mateo Tessore (Bass).

Cooper's soul and gospel influences are felt through her melodic choices and lyricism and strengthened through Blasco's jazz background and flair for progressive arrangements. Fallemann's funk-tuition is sensed through his syncopated riffs, a similar skill shared by Tessore whose smooth basslines are informed through Latin and Neo-Soul sounds. Villares and his years of playing tie the rhythm section up nicely, with his genre-bending playing style acting as the icing on top for this group of pioneers.
